Healing the Soul of America
I have worked hard to make sure El Paso County is accepting and welcoming of all people and that we go beyond just not allowing discrimination to occur, but making sure we are as inclusive as possible. My work in this area includes changing County policies to reflect that we will not discriminate against LGBTQIA+ individuals in our hiring practices and making sure we show our support for those individuals by flying a Pride Flag on top of our Courthouse during the month of June. I also worked with members of the disabled community to create more and better access for them by making changes to our website and other information we put out online and by asking that we have sign language interpreters at all of our public meetings. I partnered with a local non profit to push the creation of All Ability Playgrounds at Ascarate Park and two other County parks, and I spearheaded the creation of our Office for New Americans or immigrant services office as well as the push to create a Municipal ID that would benefit immigrants, as well as veterans, transgender individuals, people exiting the criminal justice system, and others. I also was the first at the County of El Paso to propose renaming Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day. Hate has no place in County government and I will always strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment in our community.

EFFECTIVE, STRONG AND FEARLESS LEADERSHIP
Not only do I believe in the Democratic Party’s platform, but over the past almost eleven years I have worked in public service and politics and have championed our party’s values. Whether it was serving as a Precinct Chair on our County Executive Committee, working as a consultant for the Texas Democratic Party, serving as an El Paso County delegate at numerous State Conventions, or as a Bernie Sanders delegate at our most recent National Convention, I have more experience than any other candidate in this race working on behalf of the Democratic Party. I spent nearly four years on the staff of former State Senator Jose Rodriguez, working every day to help move our state in the right direction, and of course, I am finishing my second term as a Democrat on the El Paso County Commissioners Court, representing Precinct 2. I have served as a strong, progressive voice during the past seven years, having effectively worked to create initiatives and policies that are in line with the Democratic Party’s Platform on a local level, as well as advocating for the same at the Texas State Legislature and at the US Congress, as well as with the Whitehouse.
Below are some examples of the work I have done that correlates with the Democratic Party Platform:
