Combating the Climate Crisis and Pursuing Environmental Justice

I outlined some of my work in this area in a prior answer, but want to remind everyone that Climate Change is real and we all need to do our part, especially those of us in elected office, or who want to be elected officials. We must look at everything with a “green” lens, whether it be in economic development, constructing roads or buildings, or looking at our carbon footprint. The Pandemic helped us to understand that we can reduce our carbon footprint by allowing parts of our workforce to work from home. I plan to push the County to continue to consider allowing employees that may not have to be in the office everyday to tele-work. It saves space, which saves on electric, gas and water consumption in our buildings, as well as helping reduce carbon emissions that occur as a result of so many vehicles being driven to work everyday. I am committed to more advocacy in this realm if I am re-elected.

I have also spent time advocating on behalf of my constituents when discussing issues like rate increases from El Paso Electric and pushing them to create more sustainable energy production to power our community. Clean energy should be a top priority for our community.

Priorities

EFFECTIVE, STRONG AND FEARLESS LEADERSHIP

Not only do I believe in the Democratic Party’s platform, but over the past almost eleven years I have worked in public service and politics and have championed our party’s values. Whether it was serving as a Precinct Chair on our County Executive Committee, working as a consultant for the Texas Democratic Party, serving as an El Paso County delegate at numerous State Conventions, or as a Bernie Sanders delegate at our most recent National Convention, I have more experience than any other candidate in this race working on behalf of the Democratic Party. I spent nearly four years on the staff of former State Senator Jose Rodriguez, working every day to help move our state in the right direction, and of course, I am finishing my second term as a Democrat on the El Paso County Commissioners Court, representing Precinct 2. I have served as a strong, progressive voice during the past seven years, having effectively worked to create initiatives and policies that are in line with the Democratic Party’s Platform on a local level, as well as advocating for the same at the Texas State Legislature and at the US Congress, as well as with the Whitehouse.

Below are some examples of the work I have done that correlates with the Democratic Party Platform:

PROTECTING AMERICANS AND RECOVERING FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
BUILDING A STRONGER, FAIRER ECONOMY
ACHIEVING UNIVERSAL, AFFORDABLE, QUALITY HEALTH CARE
PROTECTING COMMUNITIES AND BUILDING TRUST BY REFORMING OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
HEALING THE SOUL OF AMERICA
COMBATING THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND PURSUING ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
RESTORING AND STRENGTHENING OUR DEMOCRACY
CREATING A 21ST CENTURY IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
PROVIDING A WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION IN EVERY ZIP CODE
RENEWING AMERICAN LEADERSHIP
